About telling ourselves the truth...

Telling ourselves the truth is one of the hardest things that we will ever do. And maybe finding out what the truth is or sorting the truth from the illusions and the lies or the influence of others...maybe that is the reason you're seeking out this type of work.

The truth looks different to each of us...sometimes it's a welcome revelation, and sometimes it's recognizing problematic behaviors, choices and mindsets within ourselves. And as cliche as it sounds, the only way through it is through it. Once you start to peel back the layers and start to realize and see the cracks in your own stories that you tell yourself, or the stories that others tell you about yourself, you're going to grieve. It's going to be painful. However, there is a peace on the other side of that pain in knowing that you have done everything you can to be the most authentic version of yourself. To recognize (for example) "I struggle with boundaries. I struggle with people- pleasing and fawning. I struggle with addictive behaviors. I struggle with communication." Self-awareness is the beginning. Once you know things about yourself, once you know the truth, then you can take action.

It's going to take time to uncover that truth. Period. There's really no way around it. And (respectfully) the sooner you're willing to accept that, the deeper this work will go for you. And - spoiler alert - it will never be over. You will be discovering yourself until your last breath. There will always be more to learn, more to understand...and whether that means shifting those problematic behaviors, patterns, and more, or just accepting that there are certain things about yourself that you can't change or don't have control over...then you're doing the best you can. If you can go to sleep at night knowing that, knowing that you did everything you could to help yourself...THAT is a peace worth fighting for, even if a bit of that fight is with yourself.
